IPTS (2013) STANDARD 9 - Professionalism, Leadership, and Advocacy - The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
Description- For one of my Pal 1s I went to observe the Student Annual at the art gallery in Uptown Normal. All the artwork was artwork made by Illinois State University Students.
Rational- My attendance at the Student Annual in the art gallery in Uptown Normal reflects my commitment to professionalism, leadership, and advocacy within the educational community. Firstly, by taking the initiative to observe the artwork of Illinois State University students, I demonstrate my dedication to staying informed and engaged with the broader artistic and educational community, showcasing your professionalism as an educator. Moreover, my presence at the Student Annual signifies my role as a leader within the learning community. By actively participating in events such as these, I contribute to the enrichment of the educational experience for both students and colleagues alike. My willingness to support and engage with student artwork not only demonstrated my leadership but also fosters a culture of collaboration and appreciation for the arts within the school community. Furthermore, my attendance at the Student Annual serves as advocacy for students and their creative endeavors. By recognizing and celebrating the artistic achievements of students, I advocate for their voices to be heard and their talents to be valued within the educational context. This advocacy not only supports students' artistic growth and confidence but also underscores the importance of arts education within the broader educational landscape.
