PROFESSIONALISM, ADVOCACY & LEADERSHIP: PAL 2
IPTS (2013) STANDARD 9 - Professionalism, Leadership, and Advocacy - The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.

Description- For one of my Pal 2s I volunteered at HOIC at Illinois State University. I was in a class with 10th graders. The teacher in the class had the students work on a project where the students only had 5 minutes to create a storyboard and then they switched projects and had someone else do the color. I helped the class by passing out papers and pencils. I also participated in the project.

Rational- My volunteer work at HOIC at Illinois State University demonstrates my commitment to professionalism, leadership, and advocacy within the educational community. Firstly, by volunteering my time to support the teacher and students in the class, I exhibit professionalism by actively engaging in opportunities to contribute to the educational experience of others. Moreover, my role in assisting with classroom tasks such as passing out papers and pencils showcases my willingness to provide leadership within the learning community. My proactive approach to supporting the teacher and students demonstrates my ability to take initiative and contribute positively to the classroom environment, thereby fostering a culture of collaboration and mutual support. Furthermore, my participation in the project alongside the students underscores my advocacy for their learning and creative expression. By actively engaging in the project activities, I demonstrate my belief in the value of hands-on learning experiences and my support for students' exploration and experimentation with different artistic techniques. Overall, my volunteer work at HOIC exemplifies my embodiment of professionalism, leadership, and advocacy as an ethical and reflective practitioner, thereby meeting the expectations outlined in Standard 9 of the IPTS.
